Automated Traffic Surveillance and Control Technology (ATSAC)

Our turnkey electrical installation helped a municipal transportation department upgrade city-wide traffic surveillance and control systems.

Value Delivered

The City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) invented an Automated Traffic Surveillance and Control (ATSAC) technology to monitor traffic. This ATSAC adaptive control system uses real-time detector loops between intersections to track traffic as conditions change.

Dynalectric LA was able to deliver turnkey installation of this new technology to help LADOT upgrade 188 intersections and extend ATSAC along key corridors for their Golden State Freeway Phase 1, Exposition Park, and Highland Park district initiatives.

Client Objectives

The LADOT wanted to upgrade their ATSAC systems at more than 180 intersections.

Solutions

In addition to modifying street lights at 51 intersections within the Golden State Freeway area, our solutions for all three project locations included installation of:

  • Paired communications fiber optic cabling for traffic signal interconnection
  • Closed-circuit television subsystems for video surveillance
  • Hub buildings and communication equipment
  • Upgrades at the ATSAC center inside City Hall

At 44 intersections along the Figueroa Avenue and York Boulevard corridors throughout the Highland Park district, we also installed:

  • Poles
  • Signals
  • Controllers
  • Street lights
  • Wiring
  • Detection loops
  • Roadway signage
  • Striping
